On January 1, 2008 TSA instituted a new safety rule regarding air travel with lithium batteries. This has prompted a number of inquires concerning the rule’s impact to QuietComfort® 3 headphones. The below information will both educate you on the rule as well as explain its impact on owners of QuietComfort® 3 headphones. Under the new rule, you can bring batteries with up to 8 grams of equivalent Lithium-ion content on board an airplane in your carry on luggage. The QuietComfort® 3 headphones use a Lithium-ion battery that contains 0.06 grams of Lithium ion material, well below the TSA limit. The new rule also calls out that spare batteries (batteries not installed in the device) cannot be packed in your checked luggage, but can be in your carry-on luggage. For owners of QuietComfort® 3 headphones who have a spare battery, it is recommended they: - Install one battery into the QuietComfort® 3 headphones
- Place the spare battery into the battery storage space in the headphone’s carry case
- Pack the headphone carry-case in their carry-on luggage
Listed below you will find a summary chart of the new rule with the section that pertains to owners of QuietComfort® 3 headphones. At this time, these rules apply only to US airport security checkpoints and flights originating and terminating in the US.
