A stream is similar to a TV channel - different channels have different content. With BOSE® link technology, both streams deliver content from audio sources enabled by the LIFESTYLE® system. For example, one stream might be music from the internal CD player, while the second stream could be generated by the FM tuner, or even a connected component like a TV.
A stream-based approach offers far more flexibility than the traditional zone approach. In a zone approach, audio systems in different rooms are physically linked together. Thus, two rooms in a zone, such as the master bedroom and the kitchen, must always have the same audio output. With the stream approach, you can choose either of two audio streams in each connected room. Someone in the kitchen can listen to the radio while you’re in the bedroom listening to a CD.

No. The ADAPTiQ® audio calibration system is a proprietary technology available only with LIFESTYLE® DVD systems from Bose.
Yes. You can turn off the ADAPTiQ® system, but once you do, you cannot simply turn it back on again; you must re-install the system. To turn the system off, use the remote: Go to the on-screen display (OSD) and choose AUDIO SETUP. Within the menu, highlight ADAPTiQ® system and toggle to OFF.
Yes. With the ADAPTiQ® system, you still have treble, bass and surround volume control. You will still be able to adjust the sound to your liking.
Yes. LIFESTYLE® home entertainment systems have DTS and Dolby Digital decoding, so they are ready for 5.1-encoded programmes from DVD, DSS or DTV. And because it is a LIFESTYLE® system, no re-calibration is required to enjoy 5.1-channel sound. It takes only the push of one button to enjoy the digital 5.1 experience.
Today’s home entertainment systems must be able to accurately reproduce soundtracks from video programming and music from CDs. Film soundtracks are typically designed to reproduce with a boost in the low frequencies, which can often prove overwhelming when listening to music. Most home cinema systems do not automatically adjust for this. LIFESTYLE® systems automatically deliver a suitable low-frequency boost for film soundtracks, and remove it when a CD or the radio plays. As a result, you enjoy appropriate lows both for film soundtracks and music reproduction - all from a single system without complex controls.
One easy-to-use radio frequency remote controls all functions of the LIFESTYLE® system and provides access to the most frequently used commands for the TV, VCR, and cable box or satellite receiver. In addition, the system can control many important functions of a connected personal video recorder or CD jukebox.

Yes. The LIFESTYLE® 28 system uses digital 5.1 decoding to deliver five discrete channels of audio from digital 5.1-encoded material, including Dolby® Digital and DTS® (digital cinema systems) digital surround on DVD, DSS (digital satellite systems), HDTV (high-definition television), along with the added bass impact of the ".1" low-frequency effects channel. Digital 5.1 decoding provides improved realism from 5.1- encoded DVDs, DSS or HDTV, giving a surround sound experience with most of the acoustic benefits of a full five-speaker system. Additionally, BOSE® proprietary VIDEOSTAGE® 5 decoding and post-processing circuitry automatically generates and processes five independent channels of audio for full surround sound from non-5.1 sources, including surround-encoded VHS tapes, stereo CDs-even mono TV programs.

Yes. The LIFESTYLE® 28 system plays DVD-video in interlaced format, as well as music on CD, CD-R (recordable) and CD-RW (re-writable). The system also plays MP3 files on CD and AM/FM radio.
A way to store and transmit music, MP3 is a file format that compresses audio data into relatively small files. For example, using MP3 compression on your PC, you can turn a 50-MB sound file into a 5-MB file. The level of compression can be varied, but note that too much compression will adversely affect audio quality. Using your PC, you can copy MP3 files directly onto a CD-R (recordable) or CD-RW (re-writable). Storing your CDs as MP3 files on a CD-R or CD-RW is an efficient way to archive an extensive audio library.

The new LIFESTYLE® universal radio frequency remote can be programmed to control the most important functions of most brands of TVs, VCRs and cable/satellite control boxes. An infrared (IR) emitter is included behind the media centre display to communicate with any component your remote is programmed to control. The LIFESTYLE® 28 system media centre incorporates advanced radio frequency, infrared and TV power-sensing control systems. This system is designed to know whether your TV is currently on or off, so one button can turn on the Lifestyle® system and the TV. Sound from the system and video from the TV can be summoned with a single button press.

Yes. Your LIFESTYLE® home entertainment system can direct sound from one or two sound sources (such as CD, AM/FM tuner, audio cassette, or AUX) to two different listening areas (room or group of rooms, including outdoor areas) at the same time. Simply add a compatible BOSE® powered speaker system to expand your LIFESTYLE® system into other parts of your home.

Region management codes are part of the DVD standard. For any DVD player and DVD disc to be compatible, their region code numbers must match. These numbers are allocated according to where the player and disc are sold. Check the region code number on the carton or on the bottom of the (DVD-enabled) media centre that came with your system. Then be sure to choose only DVD discs that show the same region number on the disc label or front cover. World DVD region code numbers (1-6): - United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, the Virgin Islands and some islands in the Pacific
- Japan, Western Europe (including Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and the Balkans), South Africa, Turkey and the Middle East (including Iran and Egypt)
- Southeast Asia (including Indonesia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Macao)
- Australia, New Zealand, South America, most of Central America, Papua New Guinea and most of the South Pacific
- Most of Africa, Russia (and former Russian states), Mongolia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and North Korea
- China
