Lithium-ion batteries do not have the same kind of memory issues commonly associated with older NiCd rechargeable batteries, so it is not necessary to fully drain a SoundDock® Portable system battery before recharging it. However, to maximize the accuracy of the LED charge indicator, we recommend that you fully discharge and then fully charge the battery at least once a month. The battery has been designed such that it can be plugged into AC power at all times, so there is no need to unplug the system once the battery is fully charged.
If the battery will not be used for a long period of time, it is best to store it near room temperature and at less than half charged. Batteries should not be stored for more than 6 months without use, and they never should be stored in refrigerators or near heat sources.
In general, to maximize battery life, batteries should be kept out of extreme hot or cold temperature conditions and out of direct sunlight. As a safety feature, the SoundDock® Portable system battery may turn itself off in the most extreme temperature conditions. It will be necessary to plug the system in to make the battery turn back on.
