The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker is incredibly flexible but works best when it has space around it on a flat, stable, and level surface. It can also be used with the Bose Lifestyle Floor Stand or Bose Lifestyle Wall Bracket.

It is recommended to place the Lifestyle Ultra Speaker at least 5 cm away from a wall or corner to prevent unintended bass frequency build-up. To get the most from your Lifestyle Ultra Speaker, do not place it in or under a shelf/cabinet, as this will prevent the upward-firing speaker from spreading out into the room and significantly impact your speaker’s performance.

When using the Bose Lifestyle Wall Bracket, it is recommended to mount the top of the bracket at or just above ear height of your listening position and angle the speaker into your listening position. The speaker may be mounted higher and angled down; however, it is recommended to leave at least 61 cm between the top of the speaker and the ceiling to maintain the separation of surround and height effects. It is highly recommended to run the CustomTune process to optimise your sound when mounting the Lifestyle Ultra Speakers as part of your home cinema set-up.

The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker is not rated for outdoor use.

The primary way to connect to the Lifestyle Ultra Speaker is via Wi-Fi options like Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, or Amazon Alexa (where available). Apple AirPlay and Spotify Connect are available immediately after Wi-Fi set-up. To get started with Google Cast, you will need to open the Bose app and turn on Google Cast for each product. To get started with Amazon Alexa, you will need to open the Bose app and enable Amazon Alexa for each product. Bluetooth audio and a 3.5 mm aux input are also available.

Apple AirPlay>, Google Cast>, Spotify Connect>

The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker supports Amazon Alexa and is ready for Alexa+ in the US. Follow the instructions in the Bose app to enable Amazon Alexa services. Once enabled, you can mute the mic using the speaker’s mic mute button, a red light will stay on. Tap again to unmute the microphone and the light will go off.

Yes. The Lifestyle Collection products can be grouped as part of a multiroom audio system using Apple AirPlay or Google Cast. To get started with Google Cast, open the Bose app and turn on Google Cast for each product.

Yes. Two Lifestyle Ultra Speakers can be configured as a stereo pair in the Bose app to create a wide, immersive soundstage. If setting up two new Lifestyle Ultra Speakers as a stereo pair, select the stereo pair option in the app during set-up of the first speaker to minimise steps later.

The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker is not designed to work with your TV by itself but a set of two can be used as surround speakers with a Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar as part of a home cinema configuration. It is not recommended to use the Lifestyle Ultra Speaker with a TV using Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm aux line input due to latency/lip sync issues.

They are only compatible with the Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar. The Lifestyle Ultra Speakers can be configured as surround speakers for the Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar via the Bose app to create a full wrap-around, immersive soundstage. If setting up two new Lifestyle Ultra Speakers as surround speakers at the same time as a Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar, start with the soundbar first or select the Home Cinema option in the app during set-up to minimise steps later.

No. The Lifestyle Collection is designed to fit into your life, so you can create your own set-up all at once, or piece by piece. You can add a pair of Lifestyle Ultra Speakers to your Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar at any time.

Yes. You can connect a source device via the 3.5 mm aux input at the rear of the speaker. To switch to the aux source, press and hold the play/pause button. The aux source can also be used with two Lifestyle Ultra Speakers configured in a stereo pair.

For music streaming over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, use your music service provider app to play/pause, skip, and adjust the volume. You can also use the speaker buttons or voice control (if enabled).

For music via a 3.5 mm aux input, you may need to set the output volume on your source device to prevent your Lifestyle Ultra Speaker from distorting. Play/pause and skip must be done using your source device, but you can use the Bose app, speaker controls, or voice control to adjust the volume of content played over the 3.5 mm aux input.

The Lifestyle Collection automatically updates when connected to your home network. When an internet connection is available, your Lifestyle Ultra Speaker will download and install the latest software overnight while the product is not in use.

Ratings and Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding audio Excellent product, I've been thoroughly enjoying it since I bought it. Yet, I faced some minor difficulties while attempting to link them together. The connection isn't consistently seamless, and when it does work, there's a noticeable delay between the two. As a result, one speaker lags slightly, altering the audio experience. Despite this setback, the audio quality is exceptional. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product! I incorporated two of the Lifestyle Ultra Speakers to my living room as part of my home theatre setup and honestly cannot say a bad word about them. Upon delivery, the product was well packaged and the unboxing experience was great. It was so easy to connect the speakers to the other system elements using the Bose app, and once connected there have been no issues whatsoever. The speakers look amazing and have the feel of premium product with great build quality. While the speakers add some surround element for everyday TV viewing, they completely come into their own when watching films. The sound quality is fabulous and makes a movie night experience incredibly immersive and engaging. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifestyle Speakers Bought a pair of black speakers and stands . Look great and sound incredible. Have had an issue a couple of times where I’m struggling to get a “stereo pair” and therefore music only through one speaker but eventually sorts itself out .Overall absolutely delighted with them and sound quality amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Bose Bose Bose Bose world Having tested the Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar, I was truly excited to see how these speakers would work as a surround sound addition to the system. Setup was quite straightforward with a very small home WIFI issue which was quickly resolved by a quick "Turn it off and on again" moment. With the Speakers setup as a part of the system, I can only say that the effect was instantaneous and obvious. I felt encapsulated, enclosed, held in a bubble of sound which seemed directed at the centre of my brain. It took me quite by surprise and I checked myself, feeling a very broad grin spreading across my face. As a part of the system, these speakers performed perfectly, from the most subtle of sounds to the boom bang bash of high action, they drag you right into the middle of the movie. At one point, it was raining, INSIDE MY HEAD and at another, my house doors seemed to be opening and closing all by themselves. I had to hesitate to put on a horror movie as I didn't feel that I could cope with it cerebrally at that point. The interesting thing that I found out, purely by accident was that my partner who was in the garden, said that it wasn't loud outside, yet in the middle of it, well, I felt engulfed by the sheer magnificence of the moment. In regard to solo operation or as a stereo pair with a turntable, I have yet to test within these areas because to be very straight with you, I am fixated with both the cinematic performance as well as the streaming though Spotify Connect and Apple Music. Both of these apps, when coupled with high-end Lossless streams of 24bit, result in an experience which extends beyond your average music moment. I have found myself sat in my Bose bubble for 4-5 hours at a time, completely engaged with the quality of the audio. The app side of things picked showed good performance allowing me to enable or disable the speakers, also to set Centre, Height and Surround preferences on a 1-10 setting for each as well as the standard EQ for Treble, Mids and Bass, again with a 1-10 setting for each. I would really have appreciated some EQ presets, just to allow me to be able to check the different response levels "on-the-fly", a little more difficult to achieve if you are changing manually. Now we were dealing with 9 Soundbar speakers and 2 system surround speakers, it just got quite real. Back to more physical attributes, I find the speakers of extremely high quality, good tactile materials are used albeit without the glass top that the soundbar has but the same textile surfacing around the speaker. Design of operational features is as per the Soundbar with the same circular volume touch control so it keeps everything "In-family" so to speak. I am looking forward to putting these speakers into wider audio scenario's and looking at the potential of adding more to my home as I could only imagine what a whole house Bose speaker sound would be like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bose Lifestyle Ultra Speakers As satisfied Bose customers for over 20 years it has been such a pleasure using our new state of the art speakers, which apart from the power cable, dovetail effortlessly and wirelessly with our home cinema system. For the future, rechargeable speakers would add an extra layer of versatility. The packaging, set up and sound quality were and are sublime. The Bose app enables me to connect the two speakers to the Lifestyle Ultra soundbar and subwoofer effortlessly and to personalize and fine tune the best possible sound for my particular room. The speech clarity option on the Bose app enhances the speakers’ ability to pick up voices if required. Whether I’m watching a blockbuster movie or enjoying my music playlist I’m blown away by the sound quality. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing set of high quality speakers Bose Surround Speakers Review Rating: 4.5/5 About Me I’m 47, married, work full-time and spend most of my leisure time enjoying science-fiction films, action movies, gaming on PS5 and listening to music. I tested the Bose Surround Speakers as part of the Bose Smart Ultra ecosystem, using them for films, television, gaming and music. First Impressions The Bose Surround Speakers immediately match the rest of the ecosystem in terms of build quality and finish. Although compact, they feel every bit as well-made as the Smart Ultra soundbar and Bass Module. The materials, finish and overall presentation give the impression of a premium product rather than an afterthought accessory. Their compact size is actually one of their strengths. They are discreet enough to blend into a living room without dominating the space, while still feeling substantial and well-engineered. Visually they complement the soundbar perfectly and clearly feel like part of the same premium family of products. The hardware itself inspired confidence from the moment they were unboxed. Unfortunately, my first experience was let down somewhat by the pairing process, which proved more frustrating than the quality of the hardware deserved. Setup Experience This was the weakest part of my experience. Initially one surround speaker refused to pair. Then both appeared. Then both disappeared. Eventually everything stabilised and connected correctly, but the process felt more complicated than it should have been. The frustration felt software-related rather than a fault with the speakers themselves. Once configured, the system settled down and performed reliably. Performance The biggest compliment I can give these speakers is that when they are working properly, you stop noticing them. That is exactly what good surround speakers should do. They do not constantly draw attention to themselves. Instead, they expand the room, create atmosphere and place you inside the content. With films such as: * Dune * Dune: Part Two * Blade Runner * Blade Runner 2049 the difference was immediately noticeable. The room felt larger. Scenes felt more immersive. Environmental sounds extended beyond the front soundstage and created a far stronger sense of being inside the world rather than simply watching it. The worm caller sequence in Dune was particularly impressive, helping create a genuine sense of scale and atmosphere. Gaming Performance Gaming benefited significantly from the addition of the surround speakers. Using them with PS5 and The Division 2: * Environmental awareness improved dramatically. * Ambient sounds became more immersive. * Directional effects became easier to identify. * Combat felt larger and more cinematic. The speakers added immersion without ever becoming distracting. They supported the experience rather than dominating it. Music Performance I was initially unsure how much difference surround speakers would make to music playback. The answer turned out to be quite a lot. While they do not transform music in the same way the Bass Module does, they add a greater sense of space and atmosphere. Music simply feels larger and more enveloping. Tracks from Daft Punk, Genesis, Madonna and Hans Zimmer all benefited from the additional sense of immersion. The speakers helped fill the room without sounding artificial or gimmicky. Important Caveat My current surround placement is not ideal. One speaker is currently much closer to my seating position than I would ultimately like, effectively near ear level on the arm of a sofa. This creates some localisation and prevents me from giving a completely definitive verdict on surround performance. I strongly suspect the speakers will perform even better once mounted on proper stands and positioned correctly behind the listening position. Final Verdict The Bose Surround Speakers complete the Smart Ultra ecosystem. Unlike the soundbar, they do not provide an immediate “wow” moment. Unlike the Bass Module, they do not deliver a dramatic physical impact. What they do provide is something more subtle and arguably just as important. Immersion. Atmosphere. Space. They help transform a very good audio system into a genuinely cinematic experience. The pairing process could certainly be improved, but once working correctly they become an essential part of the overall package. Pros * Premium build quality * Compact and discreet design * Significant improvement to immersion * Excellent for films * Strong gaming performance * Creates a larger and more convincing soundstage * Integrates naturally into the overall system Cons * Initial pairing frustrations * Placement is important * Benefits are more subtle than the Bass Module * Software setup feels less polished than the hardware deserves Would I recommend them? Absolutely. If you already own the Smart Ultra soundbar, the surround speakers are a worthwhile upgrade that help deliver the immersive home cinema experience the system was designed to provide.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Crisp and powerful speakers, great in home theatre The Bose Lifestyle Ultra speakers are space efficient yet powerful. I have used them as part of a home theatre setup and the surround sound they provide is great. It is really cool to watch movies and hear certain sounds coming from behind you on the left or right, or even moving across the room - you really do feel like you are in a little cinema in your own home! I am a musician so I am very passionate about my music listening experience, and playing music through the Bose Lifestyle Ultra home theatre setup is such a great experience. They also look very good on the stands that you can purchase for them on the Bose website - the stands have great attention to detail with caps that hide the plug of the power cable and the cable itself goes through the stands so it all looks very tidy which I really appreciated!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Once they're set up they're brilliant! I got the lifestyle speakers to create the home theatre set up and to pair with the lifestyle soundbar and the lifestyle base. The set up for these took time. It was really hard to connect them to the app and to the wifi and then pair them with the soundbar. I found that the main reason they didn't want to connect was because of the protection software on my phone so once that was disabled I could connect them to the wifi and then sync everything together. Once they have been successfully added to the app, you will be prompted to update them and then custom tune them to your space and where people usually sit in the room. We got the wall brackets to mount them either side of the couch and this really enhanced the surround sound experience especially when we're watching movies. The sound quality is definitely an upgrade from our previous pair of Bose surround sound speakers. These are larger in size but they're not obnoxious and work well with our current decor. We are really impressed with the volume that these achieve and that they are multi-use so if we wanted to move them to a different space or connect them up to a vinyl player we can. You can also connect them to your phone via bluetooth which is great if you just want to listen to music and not have the TV on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great - but issues to be sorted. Bought two of these to replace SoundTouch. Good so far but setup wasn’t straightforward. Also I can’t get Alexa to play BBC radio stations and on other stations the two speakers are slightly out of kilter so unlistenable. I assume these glitches will be ironed out. The speaker sound via airplay is fantastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Very Smart Speaker A very smart speaker with typical Bose Sound quality- would have received 5 stars but I've been unable to get my pair of LS Ultra Speakers to work as a stereo pair. Connects together in the app but only plays on the speaker you set it up from, not the pair.
Date published: 2026-05-31
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stereo Heaven Great stereo sound from paired speakers so pleased with purchase. It was a faff to connect to wifi and set up. Alexa doesn’t give me the same range of radio stations as I get with my other Bose speaker. So using without Alexa account

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sound tricky set up, pairing issues Sound is great, style is beautiful, the problem is that the set up is tricky, takes long, especially when you try and pair two of them. After pairing the two initially, they are now both playing at a different echo and that’s annoying. I have yet to reset the 2nd speaker so I can start enjoying the sound of the two paired speakers again, the main reason I bought them. Overall Bose hasn’t improved in their ability to make the set up of their products easier for their customers which is disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sound but I cannot pair them I bought one as they were rationed, then bought a second to pair! I have had huge leknems getting them to coordinate! I am pleased with the sound but have needed to download the app twice, agave watched videos and spoken to a chat bot. I then spoke to a Bise who after half an hour got them working ! That lasted out 24 hrs. They are not paired now when they are they play music at a different pace? Not sure what else I can do? Totally frustrated! I have been a Bose customer for years, but the technology here baffles me totally!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Microphone (Alexa) not up to scratch 😔.Sound Good Great sound , but the microphone (for Alexa) isn't anywhere near as good as the Amazon Echo. It's proving very frustrating and actually thinking about sending the speaker back because of it. I would have thought Bose could do better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be better…. The speaker looks good but lacks bass in my opinion. Setting the speakers up was not straightforward the app would not let me put the speakers into party mode as advertised. The reason I bought them was because SoundTouch was no longer supported and I wanted the ability to have speakers in different rooms and at different volume levels.I spoke to support and the guy I spoke to was very helpful interestingly the info on your website about party mode disappeared 🤔 we have now got round it by using Apple AirPlay. I think the app needs refining not very intuitive. I like the Bose brand and have been loyal to it, but will look elsewhere next time I’m making a purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Underwhelming I purchased a pair of Lifestyle Speakers Ultra in white to create a stereo setup for my turntable after the SoundTouch functionality on my previous system was no longer available. So far, I have to say I’m a little underwhelmed. The setup process through the app was quite clunky, and the stereo pair repeatedly became unpaired. The Alexa integration also failed to work reliably, and I experienced frequent audio dropouts. After contacting customer support, I was informed that these are known issues, which was disappointing to hear. While I intend to persevere and hope that future updates improve the experience, I haven’t been blown away by the products as I had expected. I really wanted these speakers to be outstanding, but at this stage I’m still considering returning them under the 90-day return policy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A bit sad about my new speakers I was disappointed to give up my old SoundTouch speakers when Bose discontinued the support for the SoundTouch app. I had 3 speakers which I could play at the same time without any issue. I have 2 Lifestyle Ultra speakers and can’t get the stereo alignment to work, so I can’t play them at the same time. And if I had another, they can’t play 3 speakers together. The Alexa functionality is a bit glitchy. The Alexa voice is persistently at a very loud volume, and when I ask Alexa to reduce the volume, it stops playing entirely. The volume control on the top of the speaker doesn’t seem to work. So I use the app to control the volume. I’d rather not have to have my phone with me at all times to control the speaker. I thought the Alexa hands-free control would free me from my phone, but that hasn’t worked. The thing I miss most about the SoundTouch speakers is the Preset buttons on the top of the speaker. It was so simple to press a button to get exactly the channel I wanted. I miss that. So this feels like an expensive downgrade that’s been forced on me when SoundTouch support was discontinued, which is a shame. Of course the sound quality is great but I would love it if: - I could pair more than two speakers - the stereo pairing worked - the manual volume buttons worked better - Alexa was less shouty I hope that some of these can be fixed through app updates.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Sound. Unstable Connectivity At present I am not very happy with the purchase as they keep going into ‘installing update’ mode and I have had to reset several times and they keep losing the pairing

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Speakers but awful software/connectivity Great speakers when they connect - app/software problematic and disconnects regularly. Only had 2 weeks and greatly frustrated at the connectivity via the app. The same was the case with a previous speaker.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Very disappointed that the Alexa does not seem to allow for BBC radio channels. Our Alexa's in the house can so why can't the Bose speaker? Running it through my phone on blue-tooth is no different to a small portable speaker that i have. It looks and sounds wonderful. It's just not a Wifi radio as advertised.
Date published: 2026-05-31
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing - Basically half a speaker service The introductory offer for established customers was appreciated. The physical design of the hardware and sound quality is as expected from Bose. Which is excellent. However so too are the Digital aspects of the Product which continue to disappoint. Taking into account that the ‘smart’ element of the Speaker is redundant as Alexa can’t play BBC Sounds. I then need to resort to clicking furiously through various apps and interfaces on my phone - just to listen to the Radio. Which was automatic (alarm) or a single click for decades before we went ‘smart’. So for me it’s basically half a speaker. Looks and sounds great but just too difficult to actually reliably listen to anything on it compared to previous speaker systems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish I brought 2 speakers a month ago. The speakers don’t play in stereo even after ringing Bose a few times. The emails in the Bose app are not in English can’t change it. A rubbish product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stereo does not work I bought a stereo pair about 3 weeks ago because Bose withdrew the useful functionality from my soundtouch 20 , meaning I could no longer even play the radio. I still can’t play the radio, or anything else for that matter, because the playback delay between the two speakers is so bad, sometimes as much as 2 seconds. Bose know about the problem but as yet there is no fix
