The L1Ā® Compact portable line array system: Carry it in one trip. Set it up in one minute. Fill the room with BoseĀ® sound.

The L1Ā® Compact system combines conventional PA and monitors into one sleek unit. Positioned behind or to the side of a performer, DJ or presenter, it delivers wide, even sound coverage throughout the stage area and audienceā€”even off to the extreme sides. It's our smallest, lightest, easiest-to-set-up L1Ā® system, weighing just 13.15 kg.

Big sound. Small package.

Now you can have quality BoseĀ® sound for almost any gig, event or occasion. The L1Ā® Compact system is small enough to fit in your boot or back seat, and its innovative modular design makes setup easy and fast. You can arrange it in either a collapsed configuration for smaller spaces or a taller, extended configuration for larger ones. No extra gear to haul. No heavy speakers to hoist onto stands. No speaker cables.

A different loudspeaker

The L1Ā® Compact system's slim loudspeaker distributes sound clearly and evenly throughout the room, thanks to BoseĀ® Spatial Dispersionā„¢ technology. The speaker's unusual vertical shape makes it distinctly different from conventional PA speakersā€•and has a very positive effect on sound coverage. Even audience and band members off to the extreme sides hear the same clear, tonally balanced sound as those in front.

The L1Ā® Compact loudspeaker array is smaller than those in L1Ā® Model I and II systems, but it produces comparable horizontal sound coverage. L1Ā® Model I and Model II loudspeakers project sound further with less dropoff of volume than the L1Ā® Compact array.

Integrated system

With the L1Ā® Compact system, you don't have to carry a separate amplifier, mixer or bass cabinet: They're already built in. The system's power stand includes an integrated bass speaker and amplifier, plus a built-in mixer providing a total of four inputs and two outputs.

Channel 1 is a microphone input with a customised ToneMatchĀ® preset for a hand-held dynamic microphone. The preset automatically optimises a hand-held microphone's tone when used with the L1Ā® Compact system. Channel 2 accepts up to three inputs at once, including a guitar, keyboard or other instrument, DJ mixer, MP3 player, laptop or projector. It features a customised ToneMatchĀ® preset to optimise the sound of an acoustic guitar.

The L1Ā® Compact system: audio performance, simplified setup and one-trip portability. Only from BoseĀ®.

  • Spatial Dispersionā„¢ loudspeaker technology features six small drivers mounted at precise angles inside a slim, vertical enclosure. This proprietary BoseĀ® technology delivers nearly 180 degrees of horizontal sound coverage. Sound remains consistent even at extreme sides of the system.
  • Integrated mixer in the power stand provides one microphone XLR input on channel 1; channel 2 has one instrument input, one RCA stereo input and one 0.31 cm stereo input. Both channels have two-stage clip lights, volume controls and a customised ToneMatchĀ® preset. Rear panel has one 0.63 cm balanced line output and one RCA stereo output.
  • Integrated power amplifier in the power stand delivers clean, precise amplification for L1Ā® Compact loudspeaker and bass enclosure.
  • PA and monitors are combined into one lightweight, highly portable system. Proprietary BoseĀ® technology enables the system to be positioned directly behind or to the side of a performer, eliminating the need for separate PA speakers, stage monitors and mixers.
  • Proprietary ToneMatchĀ® presets optimise the L1Ā® Compact system for a dynamic hand-held microphone (channel 1) or acoustic guitar (channel 2).
  • Two unique setup positions, extended (199.39 cm) and collapsed (41.91 cm), let you tailor the system's sound coverage for the room or event. For larger audiences, use the included loudspeaker extensions to elevate the array. For smaller gatherings and meetings, leave the array in its slot on the power stand and place the system on a tabletop.
  • Durable, lightweight, interlocking components make the system very easy to transport, set up and break down. The power stand weighs just 11.33 kg, and the total system with loudspeaker and extensions weighs 13.15 kg. No speaker cables, stands or bass modules required. The entire system can be set up in a minute or less.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect solution I bought my L1 Compact a few years ago when I started performing solo and didn't see the point in lugging around heavy speakers and stands. The L1 was recommended by a local music shop. I checked out various online reviews and YouTube videos before being convinced about making the dramatic change. But I am so glad I did. The Bose L1 Compact takes literally seconds to set up. I now use 2 to get stereo separation and my set up is easily enough for decent sized venues with noisy(ish) audiences, such as pubs. One thing that took me by surprise was the brutally clear sound. You can't 'hide behind' the sound as you can with typical PA systems. The upshot is that you have to improve your performance, which is a good thing of course. For the audience they get an immaculate sound and crystal clarity wherever they are in the room, and without overpowering volume for people sat closer to the stage. For the record I use 2 x Bose L1 (for stereo separation), with my vocals going through an Alesis 3630 Compressor (I consider this essential for any set up) and Alesis MidiVerb for a little gentle reverb. This then goes into a small mixer desk which allows me to control music / vocal volume and reverb level. I play backing tracks off a laptop. I also purchased a small LED lighting system (2 x poles and 2 x lightbars) and I can honestly carry my entire PA sound system AND lighting system in one trip from the car. Of course that's not including my lead bag, FX and mixer. So 2 trips realistically. If you're worried about making the leap from traditional PA amp and speakers, all I can say is 'do it'.

Does every musician need his or her own L1 system?

No. In some casesā€”for example, amplifying a larger group on a small stageā€”testing showed two or more musicians standing or sitting next to each other could share one L1 unit without significantly reducing the core benefits of the system.

In what types of venues can I use this L1 system?

L1 systems work well in small-to-medium size venues where the majority of live music and spoken-word performances take placeā€”including clubs, coffee houses, auditoriums, gymnasiums and houses of worship.

Can the system be used as a traditional PA?

Yes. You can use this L1 system to replace conventional PA mixers and speakers.

What's the optimal placement for the system when using it in the collapsed position?

Place the system a few metres behind or right beside the performer or presenter, just as you would when it's in the extended configuration. In some cases it may be best to put the collapsed configuration on a table, so it's more aligned with the ear level of the audience.

Can the system be used outdoors?

Yes. The system can be used inside or out, but shouldn't be exposed to precipitation or extended periods of direct sunlight.

Can I add a T1 ToneMatchĀ® audio engine in the future?

Yes. You can add the four-channel T1 engine at any time. To connect it to the L1 Compact system, you'll need a T1 power supply and an analogue cable.
