Connecting to an external audio device

You can use your headphones with a variety of audio sources, such as airline entertainment systems, CD/DVD/MP3 players, personal or laptop computers, and home stereos.

The headphone audio cable is fitted with a 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) single plug. A 3.5-mm (1/8-inch) dual-plug airline audio adapter is included in the box.

To make a connection, carefully insert the headphone plug or adapter into the jack on the audio source you will use.

Notice the jack configurations on the left below. All but the 6.3-mm jack are common to airplanes. Instructions on the right tell you how to connect to each type of jack.

A single 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) jack, found on most portable sources: Use the single plug on the audio cable. No adapter needed.

One 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) jack and one power jack: Use the single plug on the audio cable in the 3.5 mm jack (the larger jack). No adapter needed. The smaller jack does not need a connection.

Two 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) jacks: Use the dual plug adapter.

One power jack and two 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) jacks: Use the dual plug adapter for the two 3.5-mm (1/8-inch) jacks. The power jack does not need a connection.

One 6.3 mm (1/4-inch) jack, found on home stereos: Any 3.5-mm (1/8-inch) to 6.3-mm (1/4-inch) stereo adapter can also be used for this purpose.

When removing a jack or adapter, hold it at its base and gently pull it away from the connection; do not pull the cord.

Note: Airline audio may not equal the same high quality sound as a home audio system or a portable source.
