A dedicated subwoofer provides deeper, more powerful bass for music and low frequency effects (LFE), such as rumbles and explosions in films. These low frequencies create the impact you can feel, so it’s like you’re part of the action – or moved by the music.

When paired with the Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar, the Bose Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer extends low-frequency depth and output while taking over the deepest bass from the soundbar, giving it more headroom. This allows the soundbar to focus on mids and highs for clearer dialogue and a more open, detailed sound.

The Bose Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer uses the same acoustic package as the Bose Bass Module 700. The Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer has been updated with new radios to provide a more stable and reliable connection to compatible products and has been lightly retuned to provide a clearer soundstage when used with a Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar.

No. The Lifestyle Collection is designed to fit into your life, so you can create your own set-up all at once, or piece by piece. You can add a Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer to your Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar at any time.

For the best sound quality, the Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer should be placed on the floor against the same wall as the television and soundbar, with an electrical outlet nearby for the power cable. The subwoofer should not be placed on a shelf or table. For more bass, the subwoofer should be placed closer to walls and corners. For less bass, the subwoofer should be placed further away from walls and corners.

It is not recommended to place the subwoofer in or behind furniture, as this may impact its performance.

Using CustomTune Technology with your Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar will help optimise the subwoofer sound for your listening position and space.

The Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer is not rated for outdoor use.

To wirelessly connect a Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer to your Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar, power on your subwoofer, open the Bose app, select your Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar, tap the Settings gear, then select “Home Cinema Set-Up”. Follow the prompts onscreen to complete the Home Cinema Set-Up.

Optionally, you can hardwire your subwoofer to your soundbar using a 3.5 mm cable (sold separately). All you need to do is power on your subwoofer and connect the cable to the “Bass” jack on the soundbar. The soundbar will automatically adjust to sending the bass content to the subwoofer.

We recommend running the CustomTune process after you have finished setting up your home cinema configuration.

The Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar and Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer are designed to be used in the same room, and have a range of about 9 m (approximately 30 ft).

Ratings and Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refined, Accurate, multifaceted The system has been created over the last few weeks and the last but not least item to be added was the Bose Lifestyle Ultra Sub-woofer. Normally a sub-woofer seems to be a bit of a one-trick-pony, not on this occasion. A cube shaped (More aesthetically pleasing than other - shoebox shaped subs) with that same gorgeous finish as the soundbar. No Fabric in this instance, but I expect that comes down to what a sub is doing within the system. Adding the sub to the cinema system was once again, very straight forward, no wires, no complex setups, just a plug in, app open, add to the system and off we go. Connectivity is straightforward in that it's either a wireless or wired connection from the Soundbar to the sub using the Bose bass module connection cable, available separately. Once the sub showed up in the app, along with the ultra speakers, I could see little bell icons which allowed me to identify each. Clicking on each, I got a nice little sound from the speakers and then the floor beneath me shuddered as I clicked the sub, not that sickening bass that overwhelms, but a solid, deep and driven base with absolutely no distortion, in fact I'd say it was the cleanest sound sub I've heard. Accessible through the app, the 1-10 setting level again gives a lot of diversity in how you setup your sub, how you set your level of sub expectation is flexible and goes from a gentle "Whomp" through to "Can someone please tell me if there is a mountain parked in my back garden, thanks" To reiterate, this is not your garish sub, it is resonant and clean, when using the custom settings for your room, the profile can change, depending on how your room is setup, still having that app modification still gives you flexibility that you need. As a complete system, Bose have certainly put their marker out into the field, "This is Bose"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our Bose Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer As Bose customers for several decades I have been so pleased with my Bose Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer. My first impression was “wow, that looks cool”. It even lifted out of its box in a fabric handled bag which made placement effortless. Aesthetically it is leaps ahead of our previous Bose subwoofer with its sleek glass top, wireless compatibility with the rest of the home cinema system, and deep, deep sound quality. It makes watching a blockbuster movie such a family treat. Similarly when I play my music I am immersed in rich tones and base, all of which I can adjust using the Bose app at the flick of a button. This has certainly enhanced the look of my room and I am proud to display all the home cinema Bose pieces because of the quality they exude.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have to add to your soundbar Bose Bass Module Review Rating: 5/5 About Me I’m 47, married, work full-time and spend most of my leisure time enjoying science-fiction films, action movies, gaming on PS5 and listening to music. I tested the Bose Bass Module as part of the complete Bose Smart Ultra ecosystem alongside the Smart Ultra Soundbar and Bose Surround Speakers. First Impressions The Bass Module immediately feels like a serious piece of equipment. It is substantial, surprisingly heavy and beautifully finished. Like the Smart Ultra soundbar, it gives the impression of a premium product from the moment it is unboxed. Its size strikes a good balance. Large enough to suggest serious performance, but not so large that it dominates the room. It looks elegant, feels exceptionally well built and integrates visually with the rest of the Bose ecosystem. Setup Experience After some initial setup frustrations elsewhere in the ecosystem, I was relieved to find the Bass Module straightforward to add. Once connected, it immediately became clear why Bose considers it such an important part of the overall system. Performance The easiest way to describe the Bass Module is this: It completes the soundbar. The Smart Ultra soundbar is excellent on its own. Dialogue is superb. Music is detailed. Films sound impressive. However, after several days with the soundbar alone, there was always a feeling that something was missing. Not because the soundbar lacked quality. Simply because it deserved more low-end authority. The Bass Module delivers exactly that. It provides the weight, scale and physical presence that turns an excellent soundbar into a genuinely cinematic system. The difference is immediate. And once experienced, it would be difficult to go back. Movies This is where the Bass Module truly shines. Films such as: * Dune * Dune: Part Two * Blade Runner * Blade Runner 2049 were transformed. The worm caller sequence in Dune was a standout moment. The Bass Module didn’t simply add noise. It added pressure. Tension. Scale. The room felt larger. Scenes felt more immersive. The low frequencies became something you could feel as well as hear. Importantly, the bass remained controlled throughout. At no point did it feel boomy or detached from the rest of the system. It integrated naturally into the presentation. Music Performance The biggest surprise was how much the Bass Module improved music. I expected better bass. What I wasn’t expecting was how much it improved the overall listening experience. Tracks including: * Daft Punk – The Son of Flynn * Justice – Genesis * Madonna – What It Feels Like For A Girl (Above & Beyond Mix) * Genesis – Follow You Follow Me * Hans Zimmer – No Time For Caution all benefited enormously. The additional weight and authority gave music a physical presence that simply wasn’t there with the soundbar alone. This was particularly noticeable with electronic music and film scores. The Bass Module brought excitement, energy and scale without overwhelming the rest of the mix. Gaming Performance Gaming on PS5 also benefited significantly. Playing The Division 2: * Explosions carried genuine impact. * Weapons felt more powerful. * Environmental effects gained scale. * The overall presentation became more immersive. The Bass Module adds another layer of realism to gaming without becoming distracting. The Most Important Observation The biggest compliment I can give the Bass Module is that it changed my opinion of the system. Before it arrived, I thought: “The soundbar is excellent.” After it arrived, I thought: “This is the system Bose intended people to hear.” The Bass Module provides the missing “oomph”. The missing authority. The missing physicality. It is the component that turns admiration into excitement. Final Verdict If the Smart Ultra soundbar is the heart of the system, the Bass Module is its muscle. It adds scale, depth, weight and excitement to everything it touches. Unlike the surround speakers, which add immersion, the Bass Module delivers an immediate and unmistakable improvement. For me, it is the single most transformative upgrade in the entire ecosystem. Pros * Exceptional bass performance * Deep, controlled low frequencies * Dramatically improves films * Excellent for gaming * Transforms music listening * Integrates seamlessly with the soundbar * Premium build quality Cons * Once you’ve heard it, it’s impossible to go back to the soundbar alone * Requires floor space Would I recommend it? Without hesitation. The Smart Ultra soundbar is excellent on its own, but the Bass Module is what gives it the authority, excitement and physical presence it deserves. For anyone considering the Smart Ultra ecosystem, I would regard the Bass Module as essential rather than optional.
